Just as we were getting ready for the first route scouting at a new Epic Rides destination, the news came through the media that Ploče had won the title of the 3rd ugliest coastal town in Europe. Many travellers on their way to the far south of Croatia, who passed through or briefly stopped waiting for the ferry to Pelješac, might agree. But we disagree. As, incidentally, do more than 8,000 people who live in this peaceful and exceedingly interesting port town with an incredibly and unexpectedly beautiful surroundings. Interestingly, the architects wouldn't agree either, because Ploče as a town is a functional and very interesting urban entity, to paraphrase just some of them. To return for a moment to the story about the ugliest towns in Europe, at that same "competition" Monte Carlo was proclaimed the first. OK, that's the company. Between the river, the lakes and the sea, at every moment you will be surrounded by some kind of water. And while the debate raged about the beauty of the town, obviously no one peeked into the surroundings of Ploče. And that debate is moot. The mouth of the Neretva river, the Baćina Lakes and the Adriatic Sea — three majestic works of nature that need fear nothing because they can compete in beauty with more famous places. When we add to that a bit of rocky terrain in the interior and a field called Jezero and the river Matica, we got on a very small space so much diversity that is hard to compare with anything seen before... A space so small that it fits a new, different, refreshing Epic Rides.
